How to deal with the aging of die-cutting tape? What should we pay attention to?

In die-cutting production, we often find that the tape we buy initially works well, but after a period of use, the tape will show signs of aging, such as losing adhesion, breaking, etc. So, what are the causes of tape aging?

1. Ultraviolet radiation: Ultraviolet radiation has high-temperature characteristics and can quickly decompose adhesive substances. If the tape is exposed to sunlight for a long time, it is prone to aging. Therefore, to delay the aging of the tape, it is necessary to keep it away from ultraviolet radiation.

2. Metals: The tape contains organic compounds that can react with metals, leading to tape aging. Plasticizers also have the function of causing tape aging.

3. Oxygen: Oxygen in the air is abundant. It accounts for 21% of the air composition and accelerates substance oxidation. The higher the oxidation speed, the faster the aging.

The causes of tape aging are influenced by the above factors, so it is vital to avoid these factors as much as possible when using the tape to prolong its lifespan.

Here are some recommendations:

1. The tape should be stored in warehouses to avoid exposure to sunlight and rain. Avoid contact with acidic and alkaline oils and organic solvents. Keep it clean and dry, and store it at a temperature between -15°C and 40°C.

2. Store the tape in rolls instead of folding it, and flip it every quarter if it is stored for a long time.

3. When loading and unloading conveyor belts, use lifting equipment and beam-type slings to avoid damaging the belt edges. Do not load and unload randomly, which may cause loosening and flapping of the pulley.

4. Choose the type and specifications of the tape reasonably according to usage requirements and specific conditions.

5. Do not connect (assemble and match) tapes of different varieties, specifications, strengths, and fabric layers.

6. Hot vulcanization is the preferred method for conveyor belt joints to improve reliability and maintain high effective strength.

7. The diameter of conveyor belt pulleys and the minimum diameter of conveyor belt guide pulleys should comply with relevant regulations.

8. Do not allow the belt to snake or creep. Keep the traction roller and vertical roller elastic, and the tension should be moderate.

9. When the conveyor is equipped with baffles and cleaning devices, avoid excessive wear on the belt.

10. Cleanliness is a basic condition for the proper operation of the tape. Foreign objects can affect belt eccentricity, tension difference, and even lead to breakage.

11. When early damage is found during the use of the tape, it is necessary to promptly identify the cause and carry out repairs to avoid adverse consequences.

These storage suggestions are based on common tape conditions. In terms of materials, all materials are more or less affected by factors such as oxygen, ultraviolet radiation, dust, solvents, and moisture. Therefore, different product manufacturers will provide suggestions on suitable terms of use, storage environment and conditions, packaging specifications, etc., based on the specific tape performance characteristics, to maintain consistent quality and performance. Die-cutting manufacturers should also consult detailed information about various tapes after purchasing them to avoid unnecessary losses.
